Poor Construction Management Can Cause a Nightmare

Every construction job needs good project management in order to get everything done correctly and on time. Sometimes, it’s possible for things to get out of hand for a number of reasons. It might be the inexperience of the contractor or outside circumstances like weather, but most of the time it’s due to the job site or project not being properly managed. There are plenty of examples of poor construction management that can wreak havoc on your prefab steel structure, delay or even halt the entire process. Lack of Supervision This is dangerous because while the employees are likely well trained at their jobs, it must be done in a  safe manner and in a particular order to keep everything on track and on schedule. The project manager’s job is the observe the entire job site to tighten up any weak or slow spots. Missing Milestones This is a big one since these milestones are what keeps the project on track to ensure that it’s done by the agreed upon date. This is even more detrimental if you’re looking to build a commercial building that needs to be used for something that produces revenue like being rented or used as a factory. Not Enough Information A contractor might jump at your project without having all the necessary information, and this can end up disastrous for tons of reasons. Without knowing all the things that are required, the contractor might actually be in over his head and unable to do what you were looking for. This will likely cause you to have to either spend more money in the long run on a contractor that can do the entire scope of the job, or accept a finished product you’re unhappy with. Not Enough Skills This is a huge one and comes down to the project manager being honest about their team’s capabilities and limits. A good Project Manager will always be aware of their team’s limitations and be able to leverage it against the job that needs to be done. It’s also their job to remove or add people who would be more suitable for the job if it calls for it. Plenty Of Accidents This ties back into supervision, but a Project Manager is also tasked with making sure that everyone on the job site is doing their job in a safe way to avoid any accidents whatsoever. Some might be inevitable due to something like extreme weather conditions, but the vast majority of accidents on a job site are preventable, and come down to everyone on the site having the right training and information about maintaining standards of safety. No Permits & No Insurance This is something that should be dealt with before the contract is even signed, but it might slip under the radar if the builder isn’t sure what to look for or confirm. It’s important for the Project Manager to always know the status of any liability insurance and permits for their job sites so there are no delays or other issues that arise.
